Chain Weapons

Instead of a normal blade, chain weapons have a set of motorised biting teeth, either on a chain, or vibrating back and forth. These teeth can cause terrible damage, and the ragged injuries may take months to heal, leaving extensive scarring. However, they are extremely loud weapons, giving out a mechanical growl that becomes a high-pitched whine when it strikes armour or bone. Most stealth troops prefer normal swords and knives.

Chain Axe

The chain axe, typically the size of a standard axe, but occasionally larger, is a brutal, unsubtle weapon favoured by zealots and psychopaths. The most infamous users of chain axes are the Berzerker Chaos Space Marines of Khorne. Partly as a result of the love felt for the weapon by the most bloodthirsty warriors, the Adeptus Mechanicus has declared the weapon heretical amongst the Imperial armed forces, reserving it only for their own troops (the axe being a potent symbol within the Adeptus Mechanicus). However, this restriction is rarely observed – the word of the Adeptus Mechanicus bears little weight when weighed against the voice of the Ecclesiarchy, who are the weapon’s chief users within the Imperium.

Chainsword

A lot more common than the chain axe, the chainsword is a standard squad leaders’ weapon in most branches of the Imperial military. Although sword-shaped, the weight and vibration of the weapon make it less easy to wield than a standard sword, and parrying in particular, thanks to the moving blade, is difficult.

Eviscerator

Essentially an upscaled chainsaw or chainsword, the eviscerator was developed by the Redemption of Necromunda, although Imperial pilgrims rapidly spread the weapon across the galaxy. More so than any other chain weapon, the eviscerator requires brute strength more than finesse, and is normally wielded in two hands.
