Prize Fighter
(Basic) Prize Fighter Pit Slave |
|||||||||
Pit slave is the generic name given on many worlds to those who fight in an arena. Most are actually slaves forced to fight, but some are professional athletes, or even violently inclined hobbyists. Whether they are free citizens or not, successful pit slaves can achieve great acclaim and popularity. Mostly though, they end their lives on a deathbed of their own entrails. |

(Advanced) Prize Fighter Gladiator |
|||||||||
The most successful prize fighters are the gladiators, who have bested dozens of opponents and wild creatures in the arena. Highly trained in many forms of armed and unarmed close combat, they are virtually unstoppable in a brawl, something which does not go unnoticed by their guards. Instead of keeping them in line by threats of violence, most slavers who own gladiators will use promises of eventual freedom to maintain their obedience. Although releasing a valuable slave may at first seem foolish, the slavers know that most gladiators end their careers because of severe injury, at which time the promise can be fulfilled with no financial loss and no need to pay for food for a useless slave. Usually, even an injured gladiator is more powerful than a typical human, and so most have no difficulty in finding work after retirement. Some fall back on experience gained outside the arena, where their owners have discreetly sent them out to stud for noblewomen, and become professional escorts. |
